Youth Justice Service Officer / Case Manager

Job Purpose

To work as part of a multi-agency Youth Justice Service to prevent offending and reduce reoffending among children and young people. The postholder will manage a caseload, deliver statutory interventions and support young people to achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of young people subject to Youth Justice statutory orders.

• Complete AssetPlus and other assessments, identifying risks, needs and strengths.

• Develop and deliver targeted intervention and risk-management plans.

• Prepare pre-sentence, referral order and court reports.

• Represent the YJS at Youth Court and other courts as required.

• Undertake direct work with young people, parents and carers, including home and community visits.

• Work with children’s social care, police, education, health and other partner agencies.

• Support young people on bail, remand and custody, including resettlement and rehabilitation.

• Respond to safeguarding concerns and promote the welfare of children and young people.

• Promote restorative justice and positive outcomes for victims and young people.

• Maintain accurate, timely case records and contribute to service performance monitoring.

• Participate in quality assurance, training, supervision and professional development.

Essential Experience

• Experience working with children and young people, particularly those involved in offending or at risk of offending.

• Knowledge of youth justice, safeguarding and risk management.

• Experience undertaking assessments and developing intervention plans.

• Strong multi-agency working and case management skills.

• Excellent communication, report-writing and court presentation skills.

• Ability to work flexibly, including occasional evenings, weekends and court duties.
