Social Worker – Children’s Services

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Children’s Social Worker to join a Children’s Services team.

The successful candidate will work with children, young people and families to assess needs, manage risk and provide effective social work interventions. You will be responsible for managing a caseload and working collaboratively with families and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes and ensure children remain safe and supported.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an allocated caseload of children and families.

• Undertake high-quality assessments and identify strengths, needs and risks.

• Develop and implement effective plans to improve outcomes for children.

• Undertake Child in Need (CIN) and Child Protection (CP) work.

• Complete statutory visits and ensure children's needs and welfare remain central to practice.

• Assess and manage safeguarding risks appropriately.

• Build positive and professional relationships with children, young people, parents and carers.

• Ensure children's wishes, feelings and lived experiences inform assessments and decision-making.

• Work collaboratively with schools, health professionals, police and other partner agencies.

• Participate in strategy discussions, child protection conferences, core groups and review meetings where required.

• Prepare clear and accurate reports, assessments and case records.

• Where appropriate, contribute to Public Law Outline (PLO) and care proceedings.

• Maintain accurate case records in accordance with statutory and local authority requirements.

• Participate in supervision, team meetings, training and continuing professional development.

• Work in accordance with relevant legislation, safeguarding procedures and professional standards.

Candidate Requirements

We are looking for candidates who have:

• A recognised Social Work qualification.

• Current Social Work England registration.

• Previous experience working within Children’s Services.

• Strong knowledge of children’s safeguarding and relevant legislation.

• Experience undertaking assessments and managing complex caseloads.

• Experience in CIN and Child Protection practice.

• Strong risk assessment and analytical skills.

• Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.

• The ability to work independently and effectively within a multi-agency environment.

• A child-centred, strengths-based approach to social work.

• Enhanced DBS clearance or willingness to obtain one.
