SEND Tribunal & Mediation Officer

We are looking for an experienced and highly organised SEND Tribunal & Mediation Officer to join our team on a fully remote basis.
This is an important role supporting the effective management and resolution of disputes relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will coordinate SEND tribunal appeals and mediation cases, ensuring that statutory requirements and deadlines are met while working sensitively with families, schools, legal representatives and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Tribunal Case Management: Coordinate responses to SEND Tribunal appeals, including preparing legal documentation, gathering evidence and supporting representation at hearings.
- Mediation Coordination: Arrange and support mediation meetings between families and the Local Authority, with a focus on resolving disagreements constructively and, where possible, avoiding formal legal proceedings.
- Legal & Statutory Compliance: Ensure all actions, documentation and responses comply with the SEND Code of Practice, tribunal procedures and relevant statutory timescales.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Work closely with parents and carers, legal representatives, schools, professionals and internal teams to manage complex and sensitive disputes professionally.
- Advice & Guidance: Provide specialist advice and guidance to colleagues on SEND tribunal and mediation processes, helping to support consistent and lawful decision-making.
- Record Keeping & Reporting: Maintain accurate and comprehensive case records, track outcomes and identify learning points to contribute to service improvement and accountability.
About You
You will have a strong understanding of SEND legislation, tribunal procedures and mediation processes, together with the ability to manage complex cases sensitively and effectively.
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and SEND Tribunal procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience managing complex, sensitive or contentious cases.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and advocacy skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise competing demands and work effectively to statutory deadlines.
- A professional, calm and solution-focused approach when dealing with challenging situations.
- The ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders.
