About the role

We Do Social Work is currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Needs Assessment Plan Writer to join a dedicated SEND team supporting children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced professional who understands the Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment and planning process and can produce high-quality, person-centred Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) within statutory timescales.

Working as part of a SEND team with a designated caseload, you will coordinate information from education, health, social care and other professionals, ensuring that advice is brought together effectively to support the assessment and planning process.

You will also lead co-production meetings with children and young people, parents/carers, education settings and partner agencies, ensuring that their views, wishes and aspirations are reflected within the final plan.

Key responsibilities

As a SEND Needs Assessment Plan Writer, you will:

Monitor and track new EHC needs assessments, ensuring that required advice and information is obtained within statutory timescales.
Review and analyse information provided by professionals, families, education settings and other relevant agencies.
Write clear, accurate and effective Education, Health and Care Plans for children and young people.
Lead and facilitate co-production meetings with children and young people, parents/carers, education settings and partner agencies.
Maintain accurate records and information systems to support the assessment and EHCP process.
Liaise effectively with professionals and external organisations to ensure appropriate information, advice and resources are identified.
Work closely with relevant SEND colleagues to maintain clear communication throughout the assessment and planning process.
Ensure that work is undertaken in accordance with relevant SEND legislation, statutory guidance, policies and procedures.
Promote a person-centred approach, ensuring children and young people remain at the heart of the planning process.
Represent the SEND service appropriately within multi-agency meetings.
Manage competing priorities and work accurately under pressure while meeting statutory deadlines.

About you

We are looking for someone who has:

Experience of writing Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Experience of working with children and young people with SEND, disabilities and/or their families.
Experience of working within a SEND service or a comparable education, health, social care or public-sector environment.
Experience of working effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and partner agencies.
Good knowledge and understanding of SEN and disability legislation, including the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice.
A sound understanding of the EHC framework and assessment pathway.
Knowledge of health and social care services supporting children and young people with SEND.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to communicate confidently and professionally with families, schools, professionals and external organisations.
The ability to contribute effectively to multi-agency meetings.
Strong IT and administrative skills, with the ability to use a range of systems and software.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately under pressure.
The ability to work independently, use initiative and manage a designated caseload.
A genuine commitment to a person-centred and outcome-focused approach.

A Level 3 qualification or equivalent, together with a good standard of written and spoken English, is required.
