SEND Case Officer

We Do Social Work is currently recruiting for an experienced SEND Case Officer to join a dedicated team supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience working with children and young people with SEND, their families, schools and multi-agency professionals, who is passionate about ensuring children and young people receive the right support and achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role

As a SEND Case Officer, you will support Senior Officers with the management of allocated caseloads, helping to ensure children and young people with SEND are appropriately assessed, placed and supported.

You will build effective professional relationships with parents and carers, education settings and partner agencies, working collaboratively to identify needs, agree appropriate provision and achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Support Senior Officers with allocated SEND caseloads, including non-complex assessments of need and annual reviews.
• Work closely with parents, carers, schools, colleges and other settings to identify needs and determine appropriate support.
• Liaise with professionals and multi-agency teams to ensure children and young people are appropriately placed and supported.
• Draft and amend Education, Health and Care (EHC) plans, ensuring they are high quality, person-centred and outcome-focused.
• Participate in non-complex annual reviews and make amendments or cease plans where appropriate.
• Gather and share information with partner agencies and make or receive referrals as required.
• Support the identification of appropriate education provision and school placements.
• Support non-complex funding requests.
• Provide professional advice and support to stakeholders and partner agencies.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of SEND legislation, case law, national guidance and developments.
• Maintain accurate records and work in accordance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
• Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people throughout all aspects of the role.

About You

We are looking for a confident and organised professional who can manage a varied workload while developing positive relationships with children, young people, families and partner agencies.

You will have:

• Experience of supporting children and young people with SEND and their families.
• Experience of representing an organisation within multi-agency forums.
• Experience of developing effective working relationships with young people, parents/carers and key partner agencies.
• Knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and the Children and Families Act, including SEND reforms and inclusive education.
• An understanding of education settings and the roles and responsibilities involved in supporting children and young people.
• Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and database systems.
• The ability to evaluate your own work and effectively prioritise and manage your workload.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop effective partnerships.

Qualifications

You will ideally hold a Level 3 qualification in an area related to Social Care, Education or Health, or have relevant equivalent experience.

An NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification in a related area would be desirable.
