Interim Director of Adult Social Services

Pay Rate: £900–£975 per day Umbrella, dependent on experience
Working Pattern: 5 days per week
Hybrid Working: 2–3 days per week in the office

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Interim Director of Adult Social Services to provide senior leadership across Adult Social Care, ensuring high-quality, person-centred services that improve outcomes, promote independence and meet statutory responsibilities.

This is a key leadership role with responsibility for service transformation, safeguarding, commissioning, partnership working, performance improvement, governance and financial management.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Council’s Adult Social Care strategy and transformation agenda.
• Provide strategic oversight of Adult Safeguarding, DoLS, Occupational Therapy, Mental Health Social Work, Hospital Interface, Reablement, Day Services, Internal Provider Services and Quality Assurance.
• Ensure compliance with the Care Act 2014 and relevant statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Drive service improvement, innovation and preventative approaches that promote independence and wellbeing.
• Build effective partnerships across health, social care, local authorities, elected members and external stakeholders.
• Lead adult social care commissioning and support the development of a sustainable, high-quality local care market.
• Take responsibility for budgets, resources, performance and governance, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery.
• Promote integrated working across health and social care systems.
• Provide strong strategic leadership during a period of transformation and organisational change.

About You

We are looking for a senior Adult Social Care leader with a strong track record of strategic management within a local authority or similar environment. You will have extensive knowledge of statutory adult social care, safeguarding, commissioning and service transformation, alongside the ability to lead complex services and build strong relationships at senior level.

You will be strategic, collaborative and outcomes-focused, with the leadership skills and experience to drive improvement while maintaining a strong focus on residents, quality and financial sustainability.
