Head of Schools Admissions Service
Education Qualified | Local Authority Experience Essential
We are seeking an experienced Head of Schools Admissions Service to provide strategic and operational leadership of the school admissions function within a Local Authority.
The successful candidate will have significant local authority experience, a strong background in education and detailed knowledge of school admissions legislation, statutory guidance and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Schools Admissions Service, ensuring an efficient, high-quality and customer-focused service.
- Ensure compliance with statutory admissions requirements, legislation and guidance.
- Develop and review admissions policies, procedures and service standards.
- Provide expert advice to senior leaders, elected members, schools, academy trusts and other partners.
- Lead, motivate and develop the admissions team.
- Manage complex admissions cases, appeals and in-year admissions.
- Monitor performance and deliver continuous service improvement.
- Work closely with Education, SEND, School Place Planning, Legal and Children’s Services colleagues.
About You
You will have:
- A recognised education qualification and/or substantial professional experience in education.
- Proven experience working within a local authority, ideally in school admissions or a related education service.
- Strong knowledge of the school admissions framework and statutory requirements.
- Proven leadership and people-management experience.
- Excellent communication, analytical and stakeholder-management skills.
- Experience working with schools, academy trusts, senior officers and elected members.
